Daniel Stephen Sheterom of New Bedford, MA formerly of Hollidaysburg, PA and Washington, DC, passed away in his home on Monday November 18, 2019 at the age of 65, after a three year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by the people he loved and passed peacefully
Dan was born on May 25, 1954 in Altoona, PA, the firstborn son of the late Daniel Richard Sheterom and the late Mary Jane Sheterom Allison née Counsman. He never married, but spent twenty-eight wonderful years with the love of his life, Joseph Earl Taylor.
Dan is survived by his Dad, Ronald Roy Allison; his Aunt Joan Linda Ruehr DeStefano née Counsman; two Brothers Jeffrey Allison and his partner Eric Pedro and Timothy Allison and his wife, Donna; a Sister- in-Law Wendy Allison née Sisson, a Brother-in-Law Sal Fernandes, 14 Nieces, 13 Nephews and their families, 12 Great Nieces, 18 Great Nephews, 1 Great-great Niece, 4 Great-great Nephews; along with countless friends who all referred to him as "Uncle Danny" and hundreds of students he was grateful to help during his time as Ombudsman at the George Washington University.
He was preceded in death by his Nana, father and mother, his Sister Theresa Maria Fernandes née Allison, and a Great-niece, Isobel Allison.
Dan loved all things Politics, American History, and family, but was a multi-faceted man with many hobbies and interests. primary among them were; researching The Family History, selling and collecting stamps and moderating his favorite thing -- The Ancestral Hollidaysburg Group on Facebook; whenever a nap or Congressional Hearing didn't stand in the way.
He also enjoyed as much time as he could in his gardens , cross-stitching or telling “Nana” stories and will always be remembered for the Orange hoodie and his eye glasses. Dan is destined to have wonderful debates in heaven with all the people he ever wanted to meet.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, November 22nd at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, November 21st from 4-8 PM.
