Wiley Thomas “W.T.” Sutton, 83, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Monday, November 18, 2019, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Big Creek Baptist Church, in Irwin County, with the Rev. Ray Mixon and the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Sutton was born July 22, 1936, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late William Clifton & Pauline Parrish Sutton. He lived in the community all of his life and served in the National Guard. Mr. Sutton was a farmer and carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Sutton was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, song leader, choir member, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Martin Sutton; a son and his wife, Mark & Sonya Sutton; a daughter & her husband, Debra & Mike Martin, all of Irwin County; grandchildren: Michael Martin, Austin Sutton, Katelyn Sutton and Jace Elrod and his "closer than a brother", Jack Eldridge & Kip of Mystic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Sutton Elrod and a sister, Audrey Sutton Calhoun.
