Irene C. (Phaneuf) Farland, 93, of Peoria, Arizona, formerly of New Bedford, died Tuesday November 12, 2019. She was the wife of the late Roland G. Farland.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Alfred and Alma (Cormier) Phaneuf, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She had lived in Brockton for 20 years, returned to New Bedford in 2001, before moving to Arizona 15 years ago.
The beloved matriarch of her family, Irene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid traveler.
She is survived by seven sons, Roland Farland, Jr., Steven Farland, Kevin Farland, Peter Farland, Thomas Farland, Gary Farland, and Patrick Farland; six daughters, Joyce Silva, Muriel Fenton, Dianne Paradis, Roberta Bruce, Catherine Ferrell, and Teresa Robinson; her brother, Arthur Phaneuf; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Brian Farland, Michael Farland, and Jeanne Shepard Halliday, grandmother of the late Kevin, Scott, Sean, and Shamus Farland, great-grandmother of the late Jeffrey L. Sylvia, Jr., and sister of the late Rita Benoit and George Phaneuf.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday November 21st at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday November 20th from 4-8 PM.
