CHICOPEE ~ Fernanda “Fern” (Press) Decker, 94, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, November 9, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born on Bush Avenue in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on February 8, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late Jan and Stanislawa (Socha) Press. She was raised and educated in Chicopee where she was a lifelong resident. She was employed by the City of Chicopee School Department where she worked in the kitchen of the Streiber Memorial Elementary School. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview and also was a member of the Polish American Citizen’s Club in South Hadley. Above all, Fern loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rudolph J. “Rudy” Decker, Sr. who was Called Home on August 4, 1996. They were married on April 26, 1952 at the former Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 23 years of happiness together. Fern leaves her five loving children, Michele Tulay of Connecticut, Michael Mikszewski of Chicopee, Deborah M. Decker and her husband, William Niedzwiecki, of South Hadley, Rudolph J. Decker, Jr. of Chicopee and Susan C. Carnevale and her husband, Mario, of New York; her two cherished granddaughters; her two cherished great-grandchildren; and her many extended family members and friends.
