Adozinda Isabel (Miranda) Santos, 91, of New Bedford passed away Friday November 8, 2019. She was the wife of the late Joaquim A. Santos.
Born in Povoacao, Santo Antao, Cabo Verde, the daughter of the late John Baptista Miranda and Izabel Camacho Lima Miranda, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She was extremely proud to have immigrated to this country for the opportunity to make a better life for herself and her family.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Santos was formerly employed in the housekeeping department at St. Luke’s Hospital until her retirement.
Addie, as she was affectionately called by her former co-workers and friends, was an independent, strong, and feisty woman who was devoted to her family. She was an exceptionally talented cook who welcomed many to her home to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal.
She is survived by three children, Joaquim "Jackie" Santos and his wife Sherrie Silva-Santos of Acushnet, Robert "Bobby" Santos and his wife Maryanne Monsour-Santos of Wareham, and Kathleen Santos of New Bedford; nine grandchildren, Derrin Andrade, Joaquim Santos, Arielle M. Santos, Jason Sullivan, Stephanie Sullivan, Tamica DeAndrade, Kelsey Brooke Santos, Julian R. Santos, and Miranda I. Champion; her special niece, Marilyn Miranda Sousa; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Maria Helena Sullivan, and sister of the late Albertina Neves and Antonio Miranda.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday November 14th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday November 13th from 4-8 PM.
