Gilbert A. Carlisle, 61, of Dartmouth died November 2, 2019 unexpectedly at home.
He was the former husband of Queta M. (Simmons) Thompson, and the fiancé of Sharon Vargas.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Lloyd F. and Rose A. (Duarte) Carlisle, he lived in New Bedford most of his life and lived for a short time in Harrisburg, PA before moving to Dartmouth.
Gil was formerly employed as a professional case worker for the Social Services Division of DARE Family Services, as well as serving as a probation officer for the City of New Bedford. He spent additional time serving his community by way of coaching football teams at New Bedford Regional Vocational High School and the New Bedford Bears pop-warner league. He had a passion for giving through his church and outreach to young men in the area, teaching them to become men.
Survivors include his son, Teleque Carlisle of Dallas, TX; a brother, James Carlisle and his wife Cathy of New Bedford; a sister, Rosemarie Busnengo of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Jayda R. Carlisle and Malachi A. Carlisle, both of Dallas TX; 3 nieces, Katy Carlisle, Kayla Busnengo and Nina Busnengo; and a nephew, Alex Busnengo.
His visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
