Jon R. ‘Rick’ Hiltunen, 66, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Christine H. (Conners) Hiltunen, with whom he had shared 30 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Robert A. and Gloria T. (Leger) Hiltunen.
Rick was a graduate of the former St. Joseph Academy of Salem. For most of his employment career he enjoyed working for the American Laser Co. of Beverly where he repaired office equipment. Rick’s real passion was for the sea and boats. He loved sailing, wood working, model shipbuilding and just about anything to do with boating. He was devoted to his family and his large extended family and spending anytime with them, especially on the harbor.
In addition to his wife Chris, he is survived by his daughters, Marie A. Donovan and husband Douglas of Reno, NV, Michelle R. Corso and husband Jay of Danvers, Son Mike J. Hiltunen and wife Danielle of Salem, step-son, Nathan H. Cook of Rochester, NH, his sisters, Denise M. Walsh and husband Richard of Pocasset, Kari R. Reifel and husband Harry of Boxford, his brothers, R. Scott Hiltunen and wife Valerie of Salem, Peter L. Hiltunen and wife Deb of Glen Allen, VA, Eric S. Hiltunen and wife Janet of Canaan, NH. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Samuel & Owen Donovan, Brooke, Renee & Joseph Corso, Quinn & Aubrey Cook as well as many nieces and nephews.
