Donald “Don” Bruce Croteau, age 60, passed away on October 31, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on January 21, 1959 in Springfield, a son of the late Paul and Helen (Kennedy) Croteau. Don was a mechanic at Fed Ex in Windsor Locks for many years and really enjoyed working. He was always helping family and friends with their car repairs. Don loved racing and raced at Riverside Park where he won several trophies. He also loved going to car shows with his brother-in-law, Frank, motorcycles and riding with friends and his brother. He enjoyed going to turkey shoots and playing darts, bowling and became a huge Red Sox fan when he met the love of his life, his wife, Carol. Don loved to make home-made pecan pies; he loved taking vacations with his family and friends, especially to the Ocean. He leaves behind his loving wife Carol (Mendrala) Croteau of Chicopee; a brother Paul Croteau and his wife Cookie of Enfield, CT; two sons, William Gallacher and his wife Evangeline of West Springfield and Charlie Gallacher and his wife Catie of Feeding Hills; three grandsons, Bradley, Ian and Colton who all called him “Grumps”; several nieces and nephews, Bobby and his wife Traci, Beckey and her husband John, Brittany, Kelsey, Tara, Casey, Brian, Zander, Zak, Haligh, Emily, Caleigh, Andrew and Serena along with lots of Aunts, Uncles and friends who will miss him dearly. A Celebration of life will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise` Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104.
