Mary "Betty" (Brown) Dwyer, 101, of Fairhaven passed away Wednesday October 30, 2019. She was the wife of the late John F. Dwyer.
Born in Townsend, Montana, the daughter of the late Willard J. and Elizabeth (Barker) Brown, she lived in the Greater New Bedford area for the last 60 years. She was a graduate of the University of Washington, cum laude, in 1940.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Mrs. Dwyer and her late husband owned and operated Service News Company, Inc.
She was a member of Sigma Kappa and a charter member of the New Bedford Lioness Club. She had been a Girl Scout leader in Syracuse, NY. She had volunteered at the Millicent Library, St. Joseph's School, Our Lady's Haven, and Community Nurse Hospice.
Survivors include four children, Penny D. Sicard of Palmetto, FL, John J. Dwyer and his wife Glenys of Florida, Jean E. Kszystyniak of Middleboro, and Ann McManus and her husband John of Vero Beach, FL; a sister, Eleanor May of Everett, WA; seven grandchildren, Bertrand Galbreath and his wife Robyn, Zachary Galbreath and his wife Megan, Beth Johnston and her husband Richard, Rachel Baker and her husband Wayne, Kelly Seibler and her husband Mac, Casey McManus, and Katherine Dwyer; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was the mother-in-law of the late Peter Kszystyniak and David Sicard, and the sister of the late Robert and Joseph Brown.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday Nov. 4th at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday Nov. 3rd from 2-4 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
