Aldora (Dora) Marie Reed, a lifelong resident of Whitman, died peacefully on Thursday October 24, 2019 at the Webster Park Rehabilitation & Health Care Center following a long illness with Alzheimer’s; she was 78.
Daughter of the late Donald Whitman and Mary (Nyland) Whitman, sister to Althea (Whitman) Berry (deceased), Donald Whitman and Ruthann Whitman.
Dora leaves behind a husband of 55 years, Donald Harold Reed, a son James Michael Reed, daughter Kathleen Anne Reed (deceased) and Kelly Anne Reed Carlson, four grandchildren and many friends.
Dora was a loving and caring wife, a devoted mother and a “second mother” to many of the neighborhood kids; she was kind and generous to everyone in her life.
She loved to play cards and play Bingo with her friends at the Knights of Columbus in Whitman. Dora spent the last thirty summers at Ellis Haven Campground, Plymouth where she has many special friends, including the chipmunks and squirrels she kept fed during the summer. She loved all animals especially her beloved dog Sammi.
Dora worked as a home health aide; she loved her clients and showed them much compassion and kindness.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday November 2 at 1:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
