Esther L. Lopes, 82, of New Bedford passed away Thursday October 17, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Donald A. Lopes.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Americo and Mary (Martin) Lopes, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Lopes was formerly employed by Cornell-Dubilier Electronics Corporation and Bristol Electronics.
She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1955. After graduation, she served in the U.S. Air Force.
She is survived by four children, Terence J. Lopes of Hyannis, Donna (Lopes) Cruz and her husband Michael of New Bedford, Lisa (Lopes) Almeida of New Bedford, and Talia (Lopes) Sokolowski of Moosup, CT; six grandchildren, Kyla Lopes, Glenn Lopes, Lexi Lopes, Tanesha Cruz, Michael Cruz Jr., and Ann-Marie Lowe ; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of late Justin J. Lopes. and sister of the late Rose Texeira, Gilbert Lopes, and Joseph Lopes.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday October 24, 2019 at 9AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
