Salem
Wilfred E. Matton, 72, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, October 18, 2019 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Gloria R. (Guilmette) Matton with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Born and Raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Alphonse J. and Marie A. (Poitras) Matton. As a young man he worked with his father in the residential construction business. A veteran of Vietnam, Will served with the Army in Europe. Following his tour of duty he returned to the states and was employed by the US Postal Service working as a mail man and behind the counter for nearly forty years in Malden, Melrose and Somerville. He retired in 2008 and continued his education by earning his associate degree in accounting while working, in many different capacities, for Ste. Anne Parish in Salem. Additionally he was a Eucharistic Minister for the parish and a President of the Ste. Anne Holy Name Society for many years.
Will was especially devoted to his wife and children. He loved outdoor activities as well as home projects and landscaping as well as traveling.
In addition to his loving wife Gloria, he is survived by their son Aaron J. Matton and daughter Sarah R. Matton both of Salem, two brothers, Frank Matton and his wife Ellen of Nashua, NH and Gerard Matton of Beverly as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard, Robert and George Matton
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 10:00 A.M., to be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours, at the funeral home, will be on Thursday, October 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial contribution to Ste.
