Obituary

Walter S. Kleczek - Of Savannah, GA, age 83, January 21, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Martin Frank Kleczek and Teofila Zapolfka Kleczek. Mr. Kleczek was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Savannah. He was a United States Army Air Force Veteran having served and an aviation cadet, fighter pilot, group operations officer and 1st Lieutenant (from 1941-1946). Mr. Kleczek served in the New York Air National Guard (1949-1950.) He received a college scholarship from the Burroughs Newsboy Foundation, which allowed him to earn his engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston. Walter never forgot that someone else's generosity allowed him to further his education. He joined General Electric Corp. in 1947 as a test Engineer during his 42-year career with GE he served in various capacities including design Engineer, Field Engineer, Methods Engineer and Unit Supervisor. Mr. Kleczek served as manager of the Vanguard Engineering project and later provided overall management for the Vega Liquid Rocket Engine Project. He traveled extensively to interview potential engineering students for employment with GE. He was the inventor five patents for G.E. Mr. Kleczek retired to private counseling in 1989 and moved to the Landings in 1990. He was a member and former chairman of the Outing Committee of the Elfun Society, Schenectady Chapter. Mr. Kleczek was a former member, director, and secretary of the Edison Club in Rexford, NY, and a former member of the Mohwawk Golf Club in Schenectady, NY. In addition to his parents he was predeceased in death by his sister Helen Kleczek and his brother Frank Kleczek. Seruvived by his wife Donna Barber Kleczek; 2 sons, David Kleczek of Lake Placid, FL and Robert Kleczek of Port St. Lucie, FL.; three sisters, Anna Shields of Ballston Lake, NY, Jennie Burns of Needham, Mary Ferson of Milton; one brother Chester Kleczek of Arlington VA, and five grandchildren, Andrew Kleczek of Waltham, Brian Kleczek of Lake Placide . FL, Robert and Ben Kleczek, both of Stuart, Fl and Brielle Kleczek of Fort Lauderdale FL. Funeral Mass will be held in Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, Newton Upper Falls on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
