Wilbur F. Porter, Jr. “Dizzy’ 85 of East Bridgewater, MA passed away peacefully October 11, 2019 at St Joseph's Manor after a long illness.
Husband, for 65 years, of Jean A (Thorburn) Porter.
Born in Plymouth, MA May 3, 1934 to the late Wilbur F Porter, Sr. & Shirley (Burgess) (Porter) Rollston. He was also the brother of the late Shirley L (Porter) Hubbard.
He attended East Bridgewater schools & The Brockton Trade School.
He was a heavy equipment operator working for many local contractors, Seward Construction in Maine before opening his own company with his son John, Porter Excavating in East Bridgewater.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, 50 year member & past Master of Puritan Lodge AF & AM. He was also a past Patron of Pilgrim Chapter #89 OES.
He enjoyed restoring Model T's, flying & collecting make & break engines. He was an active member of The Old Colony Model T Club, Model T Snowmobile Club, Cranberry Flywheelers & The Down East Model T Club. He was also a lifetime member of The East Bridgewater Commercial Club. He enjoyed spending time in Maine with family & friends his entire life.
He is survived by his daughters, Betty Jean Alger & her husband Rodney and Nancy Stewart both of East Bridgewater, his son John Porter & fiancée Grace Falzarano of Columbia Falls, ME, his two granddaughters, four grandsons, two great-grandsons & two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
His funeral service will be held in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 19, 2019. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-10:45 AM followed by a Masonic service at 10:45 AM. Burial will follow in the Northville Cemetery, Oak Street, East Bridgewater.
