Marjorie D. Delorey (Margie)
Retired AGFA Assembler
Margie Delorey, 87 years old and long-time resident of Tewksbury for over 60 years, passed away in the care of her loving family and Merrimack Valley High Pointe House in Haverhill on Monday, October 7, 2019 after a very brief respite stay as her Alzheimer’s disease advanced to its final stage. Margie was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband Daniel R. Delorey, Jr. (“Rod”) who predeceased her earlier this year in April. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 15, 2019. Margie loved her husband Rod dearly and as they grew older they continued to live comfortably at home together with the support of their family. For a short time in 2018, when both were too ill, they received good care while living at Peregrine Senior Living of Tewksbury.
Margie was a quiet, thoughtful, unassuming woman known in the community as friendly and kind always greeting people with a smile. She had a great laugh and sense of humor; her husband Rod would always call her his sweetheart and they would sing Irish songs together. Born in Boston on December 6, 1931, she was the beloved daughter of the late William F. White and the late Marjory F. (Merlin) White. With a large family of 9 children, being raised in Wilmington, attending and graduating Wilmington High School she had a wonderful childhood with many friends and family living nearby as she helped care for her siblings. After marriage, she was employed as an assembler by Compugraphic (AGFA) Company in Wilmington for 21 years, until her retirement. Margie was selected to transfer to join the office staff on more than one occasion, as she was an excellent bookkeeper who had a knack for keeping great records, but she declined each time, she confided to her family, office work was boring to her and it was just not where she wanted to be. She enjoyed working on the circuit boards with the “girls” alongside her sister in-law Joann White whom predeceased her.
In the late 1950’s, Margie and her husband Rod moved to Tewksbury where they raised their six children. Margie loved her large extended family and enjoyed playing cards, having cookouts and hosting family gatherings for them all whenever she could. Having family reunions, hosting horseshoe tournaments, sitting and chatting with everyone enjoying their company brought her great joy. Family would joke about going to the house to have some of “Marge’s coffee” as we got older. On a typical day you would find Margie reading the newspaper, clipping articles to share with loved ones, doing crossword puzzles, spending time with family members and friends, while taking care of her home and the love of her life Rod and her children. Margie and Rod purchased her parents’ home, which her Dad had built, soon after they moved to Tewksbury. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds from her kitchen table and/or on her farmer’s porch where neighbors would wave or stop by for a quick hello. She also had a small community of very close friends whom she had treasured since childhood.
Margie is survived by her six children, Katherine A. Morris and her husband Philip Morris Sr., Susan M. Delorey-Smith and her husband Everett Smith, Daniel R. Delorey, III and his predeceased wife Diane M. Delorey (St Hilaire), Patricia J. Flodin and her husband Ralph C. Flodin Jr., Cynthia A. Delorey and Pamela J. Delorey. Her late son John W. Delorey predeceased her as he sadly passed at 3 days old. Margie also leaves behind her nine loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren, her loving sister Suzanne Mackey and her husband Ron Mackey, her brother Franklin White, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom she loved very much. Margie was the loving sister in-law of the late Dorothy Winslow and mother-in-law of the much loved late Diane (St Hilaire) Delorey.
Calling hours are Monday, October 14, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 15 at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for Margie will follow completion of services.
