Marie I. Sweeney (Pezzole), of Treasure Island, Florida and a former longtime resident of Medford passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2019. She was 84. Born and raised in Malden, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Ruggierio) Pezzole.
Before retiring to Florida 15 years ago, Marie worked as an accountant for many years at Toyota of Boston, Boston Nissan and Boston Volvo. She was a long standing member of the Mother’s Club of St. Francis of Assisi Parish of Medford, an avid bowler, a seamstress and a fabulous cook. She loved to dance. She and Frank were known to tear up a few dance floors. She also enjoyed vacationing with her dear friends Bill and Louise Gaunt.
She was the beloved wife of the late Francis “Frankie” H. Sweeney, having just celebrated 65 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Michael R. Sweeney of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dorothy A. Rotondo and her husband David of North Providence, Rhode Island, Mark F. Sweeney and his wife Laura of Boca Raton, Florida, and Marianne Vinton and her husband Glenn of Hingham, Massachusetts. She was the loving grandmother of Carrie, Erin and Michael Sweeney; Julianne and the late Olivia Noel Rotondo; Sierra, Christina and Lyla Sweeney; and Glenn and David Vinton. Marie was also the dear sister of Lucille Barrett and her late husband Frank, the late Adeline Kearney and her late husband Thomas, the late Tina Mason and her late husband Stanley. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Marie was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family - this brought her the greatest joy. She will be missed forever.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Friday, October 11, from 10 to 11:30AM, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11:30AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
