Michael H. Nystrom, 58, of Marion died January 20, 2006 at New England Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was the former husband of Laurel Taylor of Dartmouth.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Henry and Hilda (Souza) Nystrom, he lived in Dartmouth for many years before moving to Marion.
Mr. Nystrom was formerly employed as a teacher at Rogers Vocational High School in Newport, RI for many years until his retirement. He was a local chef in several Rhode Island and Massachusetts restaurants for many years.
He was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Connecticut and Rhode Island College.
Mr. Nystrom served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Abraham Howland Lodge A.F. & A.M. of New Bedford.
Survivors include his former wife; his companion, Joanne Young of Marion; a son, Drew T. Nystrom, and his wife Lori, of Ashland, Ohio; 2 daughters, Erika S. Nystrom, and her companion Jim Fortner, of Luther, Oklahoma and Britta O. Means, and her husband Michael, of Dartmouth; a brother, Fred Nystrom of Wisconsin; a sister, Veronica Hunter of Texas; 2 aunts, Isabel Souza and Ella Souza, both of New Bedford; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Bella Nystrom and the nephew of the late Edward Souza and Agnes Souza.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday, January 24th at 8 PM.
Visiting hours Tuesday, January 24th from 4-8 PM prior to his service.
