Obituary

LOWELL—Ellen M. (Raney) Alberghini, a lifelong resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at her home. She was the wife of Delmo F. Alberghini.

She was born in Lowell, a daughter of the late William and Mary (O’Connell) Raney.

Mrs. Alberghini graduated from the Immaculate Conception Grammar School, D’Youville College, Buffalo, NY; and received her Masters in Education from Fitchburg State College. She continued studies at Boston University and the University of Lowell. She was a Certified High School Math Teacher and Guidance Counselor, and had been employed as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor at the Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Dracut High School, Morey Junior High School and Daley Junior High School.

She was a lifelong communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. Mrs. Alberghini was very active in many local associations. She was past president, past vice president, past publicity chairman of the Catholic College Club of Lowell, and was appointed permanent chief trustee of the Catholic College Club Scholarship Fund. She was a life member of the Ladies of Saints Memorial Medical Center.

She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of Lowell, and held membership in the Guild of the Infant Saviour, the D’Youville College Club and organized charity fund raisers for the Cancer Campaign, the Heart Fund, Muscular Dystrophy and Multiple Sclerosis. She was also a Trustee of the Lowell City Library.

Surviving her besides her husband of 43 years are two daughters and sons-in-law: Maria and Edward Dowling, of Lowell; and Lisa and Wayne Daigle, of Chelmsford; two grandsons: Brendan Dowling and Charles Daigle; a brother: William A. Raney, of Nashua, NH; also several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Francis M. Raney.

Friends may call on Friday, July 5th, from 4 to 8 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her Funeral Mass to be offered Saturday, July 6th, at 9 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
