Marlene Jones Cannon, 83, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. John Hughes officiating. Mrs. Cannon will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 6, 2019, at the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Cannon’s grandsons and Devin Dunn will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 24, 1936 in Newnan, Mrs. Cannon was the daughter of the late Theron Jones and Amy Williams Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene “Gene” Cannon; and an infant brother, James Jones. Before retiring, she was a paraprofessional with the Tift County Board of Education and she was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Merle Bowen Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Wiregrass Crafting Group at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and volunteered at the Tifton Soup Kitchen. She enjoyed being a Poling Officer during elections.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Susan Cannon Dunlap of Tallahassee, Florida; Debra Cannon of Tifton and Regina and Devin Dunn of Leesburg; one brother, Eddie Jones of Newnan; two sisters, Carolyn Madaris of Newnan and Judith Smith of Hogansville; and seven grandchildren, Ryan Dunlap, Grant Dunlap, Robby Rowe, Somer Parker, Shana Parker, Hank Dunn and Cannon Dunn.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Merle Bowen Sunday School Class at Tifton’s First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
