New Bedford – Agnes (Monte) Monteiro, 88, of N. Dartmouth died after a brief illness on January 19, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph F. Monteiro.
Mrs. Monteiro was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late John and Mary (Botelho) Monte, and resided in N. Dartmouth since 1948. She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth. She was employed as a stitcher by the former M & S Dress Shop, New Bedford until her retirement in 1967.
Survivors include 2 sons: Kenneth J. Monteiro of N. Dartmouth and Gordon F. Travers of Largo, Florida; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and several nieces & nephews.
She was sister of the late Mary Enos, Evelyn Monte and Helen Betancourt.
At the request of the family, services will be private.
