Obituary

Eschol Lee Davis, Sr., 95, of Valdosta, Georgia, formerly of Ocilla, Georgia died Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Davis was born November 1, 1923, in Crisp County, Georgia, to the late Tom Watson Davis & Maggie Lee Powell Davis. He was a tool maker and a life long inventor. Mr. Davis worked on the first U.S. satellite program and worked for the shipyard in Brunswick, Georgia during World War II. He also worked on aircraft for Warner Robins Air Force Base, Lockheed in Macon, Hughes Aircraft in Tucson, Arizona, Naval Ordnance Plant in Macon, as well as manufacturing at Aeroquip and CPI, both in Fitzgerald. He loved his work and was a brilliant man despite little formal education.

He is survived a son, Eschol Lee Davis, Jr. & Patsy Buccy of Valdosta and two brothers: Strozier & Ann Davis of Irwinville and Ralph & Sue Davis of Owensboro, Kentucky. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Effie Gertrude Davis, two brothers: his twin, Elzie, who died as an infant and Clarence Davis and three sisters: Omie Crowe, Leonis Tomberlin and Lurene Parrish.
