Obituary

George H Busold Jr., of East Brookfield, MA, passed away on September 23 at the age of 81.

He was born in Morristown, NJ and raised in East Hanover, NJ, on the old Halsey/MacNaughton farm on South Ridgedale Ave.

George attended Madison High School and worked as an iron worker. But his first love was firefighting. He was a member of the East Hanover Fire Department for 43 years, first as a volunteer and then as Fire Chief for 27 years until his retirement in 2005. George also served in the Office of Emergency Management after his retirement.

In his leisure time, George enjoyed fishing, woodwork, gardening and cooking huge meals for his small family that kept them fed for days. He was famous in East Hanover for his corned beef dinners at the firehouse that he would cook for dozens of people for St. Patrick’s Day.

In his final years, even though confined to a wheelchair, George spent his days in his gardens which were the envy of the neighborhood, and loved spending time with his family.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sylvia (Carlson) Busold; by his son George (Buddy) Busold of Manor, TX; by his daughter Dawna Hartman of Spencer, MA; by three grandchildren, Ted Busold and wife Sissy of Spencer, MA, Leisl Flores and husband Ryan Harris of Manor, TX, and Ashley Busold of Worcester, MA; by two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Samantha Busold of Spencer, MA. He is pre-deceased by his parents, George H. and Dorothy (MacNaughton) Busold.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday at Hancliffe Home For Funerals, 222 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover NJ 07936, followed by an interment at Hanover Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday 5-8PM with a 7PM Fire Department Service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of George are made to the American Heart Association.
