Joan Marie Brooks-Raymond of Brockton, and formerly of South Boston, died peacefully surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Brockton Signature Hospital. She was 71 years old.
Joanie was born on August 15, 1948 in Quincy and was one of nine children of the late George W and Alice Marie (Culkin) Brooks. She grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School in 1966.
Joan worked at New England Telephone Company and also had other jobs, but enjoyed being a homemaker. She loved her coffee and would enjoy being social over a cup.
Joan was a mother to three children, Sharon Rakes-Santiago, John S. Rakes, and Patricia Lavin. She also was a sister to George Brooks and his wife Joyce of Duxbury, Jack Brooks and his partner Sal Tringale of Plymouth, Richard Brooks and his late wife Dorothy of Randolph, Ronald Brooks and his wife Donna of Vero Beach, FL., Patricia Brooks of Brewster, Gary Brooks and his wife Winifred of Plymouth, and the late Kenneth Brooks and Nancy Sassone. She was a cherished grandmother of David Rakes ,Patrick Rakes, Khalil Freeman, Karma Freeman, Kuran Freeman. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
