Herbert L. Libby, 98, of Abington, MA died peacefully Sunday, September 22, 2019 surrounded by family.
Herbert was born on July 18, 1921 to the late Elsena and Herbert R. Libby. After graduating from Abington High School, he worked at the O.A. Miller Last Factory in Brockton.
He then joined the Navy in 1942 serving overseas for six years during WWII. After returning home to Abington he became a self-employed skilled carpenter, never really retiring. You could always find him working on wood projects in the “shop”, or maybe putting together a jigsaw puzzle on a cold day. In warmer weather he was always working in his vegetable or flower gardens.
Herbert was a devoted husband to the late Edith (Withers) Libby, and the brother of the late George, John, Arthur, Myrtle, William, Dora, Frank, Susie, Ruth, Urania, Virginia, Mildred, Melvin, Phyliss, and Donald Libby. He was also a kind and faithful friend to many.
He leaves behind his devoted daughter Katherine and her husband, loving son in law Michael Naujalis. His adored granddaughters Katelyn, and her husband Matthew Rosenkranz, Lauren Naujalis, and his cherished great-grandson Henry Rosenkranz: also many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, September 26th at 10:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, with burial to follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday September 25th from 3 to 6 P.M.
