Alfreda Jackson Barrett, 89, life long Anderson resident, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Anderson.
She was born on April 7, 1930 in Anderson, the daughter of Alfred T. and Frieda (Knight) Jackson. Alfreda graduated from Anderson High School in 1948, then attended Indiana University graduating with a BS in Education in 1952. She later received her MA in Education from Ball State in 1974. Alfreda was a kindergarten and second grade teacher with the Anderson Community Schools for 32 years, retiring in 1992.
Alfreda was a member of East Lynn Christian Church, Tri-Kappa Sorority, Madison County Retired Teachers Association, Anderson Civic and Literary Club, and MENTA.
She is survived by her children; Julie (Randy) Googins of Columbus, TX, Jane (Dennis) O'Connor of Lakeland, FL, Jim (Kathy) Barrett of Noblesville, and John Barrett of Anderson, daughter-in-law, Martha Contreras Barrett of Anderson; 8 grandchildren; Matt Barrett, Adam Alt, Jessica Googins, Bryant (Katie) Barrett, Brittany (Chris Graddy) Alt, Kaitlyn Barrett, Jamie Googins, and Aidan Barrett; 2 great grandchildren; Jackson Graddy and Fiona Barrett; 2 sisters in law; Pam Jackson of Anderson and Ruthann Jackson of Florida; step-sister, Donna (Mark) Erehart of Bloomington, and several nieces and nephews
In 1991, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Barrett Jr, whom she married December 19, 1953. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Jim and Bill Jackson, and a step-sister, Carolyn Hardacre.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 2 PM at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Dan Bair and Rev. Steve DeFields-Gambrel officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from Noon until 2 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
