Anderson – Ronald “Denny” Dennis Jarvis passed away on September 19, 2019 at the Veterans Hospital in Marion, Indiana. Denny passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Huntington’s Disease. He fought till the end and will be missed deeply.
Denny was born in Anderson, Indiana on April 7, 1953, to Bobby (Robert) and Esther (Lawhon) Jarvis. He resided most of his life in Anderson, Indiana.
Denny attended Anderson High School before enlisting into the Army. He was stationed in South Korea and Ft. Bliss, Texas. Denny was a “Tanker” in the 1st Cavalry Division while stationed in South Korea. His love for the military and country was his greatest passion.
He was commended for being very proficient with the operations of an Abrams Tank. Denny received Letter of Appreciation for the outstanding support regardless the mission as the Ammunition NCO Leader for the 1-9th Cav. Also, he received a certificate of appreciation for outstanding and professional support of the 1st Squadron 9th Cavalry M551 during Annual Sheridan Gunnery. Denny was first an Ammunition Specialist and then being promoted to a Sgt./Tank Gunner. He served a total of 8 years proudly for his country.
After his military service Denny was a roofer, painter and worked at the Pendleton Prison for 12) years. He was later diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease which was the beginning of the end. Even after 10) years of gradual decline Denny was able to smile with his loved ones. He showed our family no matter how tough or difficult things got he kept going not giving up.
Denny loved his family and is survived by his daughters, Alyssia Jarvis of Anderson and Jennifer Baker of Alexandria: son, Nicholas (Abbie) Hawley of Jefferson, OR; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His mother, Esther Jarvis, brothers: Rodney Jarvis and Robert (Bobby) Jarvis and sister, Denise (John) Blevins. Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Robert Jarvis, sister, Sandra Kay Jarvis, brother Ricki Jarvis, brother-in-law, John Rosencrans and niece, Devin Jarvis.
A heartfelt thank you from the family to the wonderful staff at the Veterans Hospital in Marion on units 172-1B (Hospice) & C for their devotion and loving care for Denny. There aren’t enough words that can express about the staff who took care of Denny and they are so much appreciated.
Visitation will be held on September 23, 2019 @ Rozelle Johnson Funeral Home. The showing will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with the funeral service following with Chaplain Rob Mifflin officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery with full Military Honors by Daleville American Legion.
