Obituary

Jeanne (Hansen) Tevyaw, 59, of Florida, Mass., died on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, surrounded by family after a brief illness.

Born on July 24, 1960 in Westfield, Mass., a daughter to Lucille (Belleau) and Frederick Christian Hansen. Jeanne grew up in Granville, Mass., and was a 1978 graduate of Southwick High School.

She joined the Army right out of high school, where she served as a Pharmacy Specialist and Medical Specialist with the 16th Combat Support Hospital based in Ft. Riley, Kansas. She returned to live and work in the Granville area for much of her life.

In recent years she went back to school as an adult learner and earned an AS in Criminal Justice from Berkshire Community College in 2017, and a BS in Social Work from Our Lady of the Elms College in 2016. Jeanne was outgoing and could make friends with anyone. She had a passion for helping others, especially at-risk youth. Before her death Jeanne worked as a volunteer with the teen population served by 18-Degrees of Pittsfield (formerly Berkshire Children and Families). She gave freely of herself to both the community and her family and will be missed.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Lisa Hansen, and two brothers Matthew and Mark Hansen.

Jeanne is survived by her husband Michael “Tev” Tevyaw of Florida, Mass.; brothers Michael Hansen and David Hansen, both of West Warwick, RI; sister Mary and her husband Jack Enos of Yarmouthport, Mass.; two nephews Jack Enos of Sandwich, Mass., and Alan Hansen of Pawtucket, RI. She also leaves her stepchildren, Melissa Zasowski and husband Stephen of Warren, RI, Rosemary Porter and husband Timothy of Newport, NC, Derek Tevyaw of Coventry, RI, Alison DeSomma and husband Joseph of Clarkesville, Tenn., and Steven Tevyaw of Florida, Mass.

She will be especially missed by her grandchildren Bethany Gadoury of N. Attleborough, Mass., Rebecca McClenathan of Warren, RI, Jillian and Catherine Young of Newport, NC, Jaydin and Kaelyn Tevyaw of Warwick, RI, Gabriel Tevyaw of Coventry, RI, Sari, Oliver, and Camden DeSomma of Clarksville, TN, Charlotte Zasowski of Warren, RI, and Madilynne Tevyaw of Watertown, NY. She also leaves many beloved cousins and aunts and uncles.
