SWANSEA – George F. Nicolan, age 89 of Swansea, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sep. 16, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, George was the beloved husband to Dolores (Soares) Nicolan for 63 years and the son of the late John and Alice (Ferry) Nicolan.
Prior to retiring, George worked 38 years as a Custodian for the Swansea School Department and was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was the past Knights of Columbus Grand Knight for 2 councils, a faithful Navigator for the Fall River Donahue Assembly of Tiverton, RI, a Swansea Recreation Commissioner, Eucharistic Minister and Altar Server at St. John of God Church, and was a 2010 recipient of the Marian Medal.
In addition to George’s wife, he is survived by his Son: Stephen Nicolan (wife Colleen) of Swansea; Siblings: Leonard Nicolan of Assonet and Dorothy Medeiros of Vermont; 3 Grandchildren: Jared, Kali, & Tyler; 1 Great-Granddaughter: Leah; several nieces and nephews. George was the brother of the late John, Frank, Edward, William, Henry, Alice Nicolan, and Theresa Canuel.
George’s funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main Street, Fall River on Monday, September 23rd here at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church, Brayton Ave., Somerset at 10:00 A.M. Private Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Calling hours on Sunday, September 22nd from 4:00-7:00 P.M.
