Miles Rayford Cox, 65, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, September 8, 2019, at his residence after a long illness.
Memorial services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2019, at The Fitzgerald Church of God, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner and the Rev. Jeremy Cox officiating. The family will receive friends at their home, 189 Fitzgerald Highway, Ocilla, Georgia, 31774.
Mr. Cox was born March 18, 1954, in Worth County, Georgia, to the late Carl R. Cox, Sr. & Sarah Alice Young Cox. He lived most of his life in Irwin County, Georgia. Mr. Cox worked for the Ocilla Police Department as a dispatcher until he retired. He also worked with the Irwin County Sheriff’s office and the Irwin County Detention Center as a jailor and detention officer. Mr. Cox served for 43 years.
He is survived by his wife, Patti Gaskins Cox of Ocilla; a daughter, Brenda Dennison (Brooks Rivers) of Fitzgerald; stepsons: Walter (Kristi) Cowart of Adel, Joe Cowart of Adel and Phillip (Megan) Cowart of Lake Park; grandchildren: Brandon Sirmans, Chloe Smith, Jaci Phillips, Caitlyn Dennison, Blake Cowart, Chase Cowart, Gage Cowart, Ansleigh Cowart, Braydon Cowart, Marlee Cowart, Emmett Cowart and Little Blake Cowart; two sisters: Joyce Suggs and Diane Puckett, both of Fitzgerald; two brothers: Carl R. “Bo” Cox, Jr. (Connie) and Richard Cox (Connie), all of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charity F. Smith; a grandson, Myles Dylan Sirmans and two brothers: Jimmy Cox and Royce Cox.
