Obituary

Doris A. (DesRuisseau) Sullivan, 87, of New Bedford died Wednesday January 18, 2006 at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John W. Sullivan, Jr.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Philip J. and Attela (Talbot) DesRuisseau, she lived in New Bedford all her life.

She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mrs. Sullivan was formerly employed by the Department of Public Welfare as a social worker until her retirement in 1984. She also previously worked for Revere Copper Brass and the New Bedford School Department.

Mrs. Sullivan was a member of the Catholic Women's Club, Le Cotillon, the Association Canado-Americaine, and Les Dames Patronesses of Sacred Heart Home. She had been a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon-Cambell Business School. She attended Southeastern Massachusetts University.

Survivors include a son, Philip R. Sullivan, of New Bedford; two daughters, Marie L. Sullivan, of New Bedford and Michele Sullivan-Grant and her husband David R. Grant of Dartmouth; and three grandchildren, John L. Leite, Katherine A. Leite, and Ian S. Grant.


She was the sister of the late Roland DesRuisseau.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday January 21, 2006 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday January 20, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
