Lois Mitchell Brewer, 93, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Pruitt Health in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Steve O’Neal officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Brewer was born October 1, 1925, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late Roy Cecil & Winnie Virginia Fleeman Mitchell. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. As a young lady, Mrs. Brewer operated the elevator at the five-story building. She worked as a bookkeeper for both Haile’s Drug Company for many years and for Mitchell Brothers and was a homemaker. Mrs. Brewer enjoyed working in her yards and gardening flowers with her husband. She loved her family and sewed many of the clothes her daughters wore. She enjoyed being active in her church, First Presbyterian, of which she was the oldest living member.
She is survived by her daughters: Mary & David Hansard of Dover, TN, Beth & Cannon Gould of St. Simons Island, and Lynn & Mike Simpson of Fitzgerald; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and another one on the way; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jake Eston Brewer, Jr.; a daughter, Laurel Creech; four brothers; and three sisters.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of Pruitt Health in Ocilla for the compassionate care they have given Mrs. Brewer during her time there.
