Obituary

SPRINGFIELD ~ Ann E. (Reid) Ehrhart Mazzadra, 99, of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, September 6, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on July 31, 1920, a beloved daughter of the late Bernard C. and Mary (Hughes) Reid. She was raised in Springfield, attended the former Sacred Heart Elementary and graduated in 1937 from Sacred Heart High School where she enjoyed many happy times with all of her classmates and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. As a young girl, Ann was an assistant organist under the tutelage of Stella Wise at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and played at the October and May Devotions and the Saint Francis Xavier Novenas. She was employed for 24 years at the former Valley Bank in Springfield in the Consumer Loan Department. Following her retirement in 1985, she volunteered her time in the Springfield Public Schools for several years. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and also served her parish as a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher and served on the Executive Board of the Sacred Heart School Alumnae. During her leisure time, she enjoyed her flower gardens and cooking. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Louis E. Mazzadra who was Called Home on February 28, 2002. They were married on November 21, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. She leaves her four loving children, Mary K. (Ehrhart) Miller and Steven L. Mazzadra, both of Springfield, Cynthia R. (Mazzadra) Foy and her husband, William, of Hatfield and LouAnn (Mazzadra) Pepe and her husband, Patrick, of East Longmeadow; her loving daughter-in-law, Kathleen Ehrhart of Providence Forge, VA; her seven cherished grandchildren, Frances Clare D’Antonio and her husband, Michael, Thomas Ehrhart, Gretchen McAlpin and her husband, Walter, Sarah and Emily Miller, Bridget Foy and Olivia Pepe; her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Danielle, Kristi, Jake, Kyle, Clare, Maurah and Chase; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Mazzadra and Reid families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son, Francis T. Ehrhart who was Called Home on May 10, 2017; her loving daughter-in-law, Clare Ehrhart who was Called Home on June 20, 1979; her two dear brothers and sister-in-law, John Reid and Bernard “Bart” Reid and his wife, Catherine; and her two dear sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret Farrell and her husband, William, and Kathleen O’Brien and her husband, Joseph. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Carol from Capuano Care, who was Ann’s longtime home health aide, for her care and compassion that she gave to their mother. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 9, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
