TEWKSBURY - Mary (Sanfilippo) Maniscalco, age 101, died Tuesday, September 3, at Wingate at Belvidere in Lowell, after a long and rewarding lifetime. She was the beloved wife of James Maniscalco, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Maniscalco was born on July 29, 1918, one of five children of the late Giacoma and Anna (Calamis) Sanfilippo, and was raised in Brooklyn, NY. She moved to the North End in Boston in 1938, and then resided in Somerville for 43 years. She moved to Tewksbury in 1984, where she remained a faithful communicant of St. William’s Church. Mary loved to cook and feed her guests. She also loved to crochet and through the years made beautiful afghans for family and friends, and donated hundreds of “lap robes” to hospitals for those in wheel chairs. The one thing Mary truly cherished was spending time with her family.
She leaves a son, Gus “Butch” Maniscalco; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine (Giangrande) Maniscalco; a son-in-law, John L. Burns, who was husband of her late daughter Annette Burns; six grandchildren, John and his wife Debra Burns, Maria Schafer, Thomas Burns and his wife Tiffany, James Maniscalco and his wife Melissa, Lisa Wilson and her husband Michael, and Leanne Maniscalco; nine great grandchildren; Jordan, Deandra, Adrianna, Gina, Cara, Michael, Nicholas, Kaylee, and Kelsie; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Gaspar, and Ralph Sanfilippo; and sister, Jesse Caranci.
Her Funeral Mass was held Friday, September 6, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Visit: tewksburyfuneralhome.com
