Obituary

DUDLEY – Daniel W. Dawson, 81, died Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Lanessa Extended Care on his birthday. His wife of 42 years, Judith A. (Onions) Dawson, died in 2008.

He leaves 2 sons, David W. Dawson and his wife Dawn Rocheleau of Millbury, and Shawn C. Dawson of Dudley, with whom he lived; 3 sisters, Kathleen Leslie and Dolena Barr, both of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Eileen Briand of Mount Auburn, Nova Scotia; sister-in-law, Vera Dawson of Hay Cove, Nova Scotia; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother John.

He was born on the family farm in Mount Auburn, Nova Scotia and raised there, a son of James and Catherine (McLeod) Dawson and graduated from high school. He moved to this area in the 1960’s but enjoyed returning to Nova Scotia to go deer hunting.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Dawson began by working on his father’s farm. He moved to Dudley and worked for the former Androlewicz Construction Company. He then was employed by Deary Brothers Dairy as a sanitization mechanic and later was a lab technician at Garelick Farms in Franklin until he retired.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Federated in Webster, where he helped at the church’s suppers for the needy. He also volunteered at Webster-Dudley Food Share. He enjoyed working on his car and watching the Boston Bruins.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, September 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a service at 6:30 PM in the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council. Donations in his name may be made to either the United Church of Christ, Federated or to Webster-Dudley Food Share, Inc., both at 4 Church Street, Webster, MA 01570.
