Obituary


HOLLIS- George Warren Pierce IV, 89, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2019 at Durgin Pines Nursing Home in Kittery. Born on Nov. 21, 1929 in Beverly, MA to the late George W. Pierce and Helen Dorothy (Hall), he graduated with BHS’s class of 1949. He was predeceased by his wife Priscilla (Bailey) also from Beverly, his brother Richard (Pete) Pierce (Tampa, FL) and his sister Mehrnoush Bahkshandeh (Saugus, MA). George’s working life was widely varied: Beverly Police Reserve, Gunner in the Navy Reserves, many years at The United Shoe Machinery Corp, and also in the security field, among others. During his later years in Hollis, George enjoyed family time, watching wildlife, music, reading and was always the jokester. After a severe back injury in 2014, George became a resident of Durgin Pines, where he enjoyed bingo, uno, music and more. The family would like to thank all their staff and volunteers for their genuine caring and support over the past few years. George is survived by 2 daughters: Carol Babb (Amesbury, MA), Nancy Cairns and husband Bob (Hollis), a sister, Shirley Ganey (Danvers, MA), 2 grandchildren: John MacKinnon and Jamie Babb, in addition to a very large extended family. A visitation will be held at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St, Beverly, MA on Sat., Sept. 14 from 1-3 pm, followed by a brief service.
