Robert J. "Bob" Hickey, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 23, 2019 at his home in Charlestown. He was 88 years of age.
Bob was born in Boston on July 15, 1931, a son of the late John P. Hickey and Mary A. (Lawn) Hickey. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School . Bob enlisted into the United States Army on January 23, 1951 and served his country with courage and honor during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 7, 1952 with the rank of Corporal. Bob worked as a Machinist for Revere Sugar Company in Charlestown for over 30 years before it closed. He was devoted to his church and became Sexton of St. Mary's Church in Charlestown for many years serving under several different pastors. Bob's philosophy in life was "actions speak louder than words" and he proved that many times in his life as the unassuming gentleman he was by always providing for his family and helping out anyone in need.
Bob is the beloved husband of the late Catherine E. "Kay" (Gearin) Hickey. He is the devoted father of Robert G. "Bobby" Hickey and his wife Phyllis, Kevin C. Hickey and the late Mark P. Hickey and his surviving wife Theresa. He is the loving Grampa to Lindsay and her husband Peter, Tim, Matthew and his wife Kristen, Reihly, Shane, Mark, Eric, Matthew the late Ethan and his great-grandchildren Aiden, Audrey, Grace, Morgan and Oliver. He is the beloved brother of Ann McGuirk, James Hickey and the late John Hickey and Patricia Yule. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bob's Funeral on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
