SKOWHEGAN- Stephen Earl Swanson, 69, of Skowhegan, Maine passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Togus Hospice Unit due to complications of type 2 diabeties.
A committal service is on Friday, August 30 at 9:00 a.m. at the Maine Vererans’ Memorial Cemetery at 281 Civic Center Drive in Augusta, Maine 04330. Revernd Mark Tanner of the Federated Church in Skowhegan, Maine will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Chad E. Poitras Cremation & Funeral Service.
Steve was born on December 10, 1949. He grew up in Portland, Maine. Steve graduated from Deering High School in 1968 and attended Sacramento City College. He served in the United States Air Force from 4-4-1969 to 5-11-1973 based in Southern California.
After the Air Force, Steve lived in Hawaii from 1976 to 1981 working in the hotel and restaurant business. Later he worked at the York Sewer District in York, Maine for 10 years. Lastly, Steve worked at various auto businesses as a sales and leasing specialist ending at Thompson Volkswagen Audi Mazda in Waterville, Maine. He retired in 2014.
Steve is survived by cousins Carolyn Hart Favreau of Cumberland, Maine, Larry Hart of Windham, Maine, Amelia Armstrong of Lowell, Massachusetts and Elizabeth Decker of Nashua, New Hampshire. He is also survived by 6 younger cousins and other extended family.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy M. Swanson, Robert E. Hart (Uncle Bob), and Uncle Edward Hart Jr. Steve is also preceded in death by his grandfather Edward Hart Sr. and his grandmother Helen Monson Hart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Good Shepard Food Bank which Steve donated to in earlier years.
