John Keith Carson, 70, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chip Grantham officiating. Mr. Carson will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Born August 18, 1949 in Tifton, Mr. Carson was the son of the late James Mason Carson and Doris Gwendolyn Ridburg Carson. Before retiring, he taught at Tiftarea Academy for 25 years, where he was awarded Teacher of the Year. He attended Tift County High School and ABAC and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1970. While attending the University of Georgia, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and loved the Georgia Bulldogs. He was formerly co-owner of Carson Brothers Laundry. He was a veteran of the United States Army and attended the Army Language School. While serving, he was stationed in Germany for three years with the Military Police. He was active in the Tiftarea YMCA and was an active member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church, where he participated in International Mission trips. He also loved to travel.
Mr. Carson is survived by his partner, Vikki Vance of Tifton; and one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy B. and Sheila Carson of Tifton.
