Kathleen Cherny, age 71, of Tewksbury, MA, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, Aug 18, 2019. Kathleen was born and raised in New Jersey.
She discovered her passion for teaching early on, earning her BA in elementary education from the College of Saint Elizabeth followed by her MEd from the University of Edinboro in PA. She taught for over 15 years, beginning with 4th to 6th graders in the North Reading school system before moving to Andover’s West Middle School where she taught special education.
Outside of school, Kathleen was a very active member of her parish at St. Augustine’s where she was a Eucharistic minister, led a Cancer Survivor Ministry, bible study group and was a CCD catechist. She was an avid reader, arts and crafts guru, and a cooking extraordinaire.
Family was most important to Kathleen; she was especially proud of her sons. She was predeceased by her son Jared L. Cherny, was the doting mother of Dr. Justin J. Cherny and his wife Christa, and Adam D. Cherny & his wife Shoshana. She was the loving sister of Joseph Burger Jr. and his wife Shelley. Above all, Kathleen was the adored Grammie to her newborn granddaughter, Samantha Rose Cherny; Samantha was truly the joy of her life.
