Joseph G. Reedy, 82, of Fairhaven died August 18, 2019 after a long illness at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Jeanne C. (Chenard) Reedy, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born and raised in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph J. and Alice (Economos) Reedy, he lived in Fairhaven most of his life.
Mr. Reedy is a retired firefighter with the New Bedford Fire Department where he served for over 20 years. He previously was employed as a tool and die maker at Atlas Tack for 12 years. He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School. When he was younger he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and golf and was a referee for CYO and local high school basketball games.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Joseph G. Reedy, Jr. and his wife Janice of Sugar Tree, TN; 5 daughters, Janice Oliveira and Joanne Reedy, both of Fairhaven, June Medeiros and her husband Richard of Acushnet, Joan Brennan and her husband David of Dartmouth, and Jaunna Adesso of New Bedford; 2 brothers, George Reedy of Florida and Charles Reedy of New Bedford; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Frances Reedy.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, August 23rd at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, August 22nd from 4-8 PM.
