Worcester—Robert G. Erickson, 81, died on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at UMass Memorial Hospital. He was born in Worcester, a son of Frank Rhienhold and Catherine (Fitzgerald) Erickson. He was a WWII Army veteran. He worked for Norton Co. for 44 years, retiring in 1984. An avid bowler, he was Top Candle Pin and Ten Pin Bowler from 1946 – 2001. He was a youth ten pin coach at West Boylston Lanes, Lincoln Lanes, and Auburn Ten Pin. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 6907 and was Commander from 1978-1979, Jr. Vice-Commander from 1977-1978, and Treasurer from 1976-1977. He was a member of Tuttle Post Auburn and Norco Sportsman’s Club in Princeton. His hobbies included Edsel collecting.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose M. (Parenteau) Erickson; 5 children, Gail Mattson of Holden, Linda Burton of Sacramento, CA, Robert A. Erickson of Harvard, Irene Julien and Gary Erickson, both of Worcester; 2 sisters, Charlotte Popowicz and Arlene Uppstrom; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 4 siblings, James Erickson, Rhienhold Erickson, Rita Macomber, and Grace Gamache.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, with a 10:00 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary, 25 Fales Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Wed., Jan 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel. Please omit flowers.
