Obituary

LOWELL—Mary L. (Hackett) McCarthy, 82 years old, died late Friday evening at the Palm Manor Nursing Home, in Chelmsford. She was the wife of the late William M. McCarthy, who died in 1999.

She was born in Malden, a daughter of the late Leo V. and Ida A. (Breagy) Hackett, and lived and attended schools in Winchester. She received her high school diploma from the Lowell Adult Education Program, in 1985. She served as a Foster Grandparent and with the Literacy Program in the Lowell Public Schools.

Mrs. McCarthy had been employed as a Buyer for Raytheon for many years, until her retirement.

Surviving her are her three daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah A. and Robert Barton, of Dracut; Carol A. and Paul Robitaille, of Londonderry, NH; and Patricia A. and Glenn Williams, of Carlisle; one son and daughter-in-law: Philip Leo and Susan McCarthy, of Westford; five grandchildren: Amy Apostolos, Jill Barton, Kyle Barton, Marc Robitaille, and Andrew Robitaille; six great grandchildren: Valerie, Ashley, Brian, Nicholas, Brooke, and Natalie; a longtime best friend: Elena Poulos; also many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late William Hackett.

Memorial calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 17th, from 3 to 6 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Private Committal. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association; 311 Arsenal Street; Watertown, MA 02472.
