Jose C. Bettencourt, age 50, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, MA.
Born in Faial, Azores, Portugal on March 6, 1969, he was a loving son of the late Jose V. and Maria C. (Avila) Bettencourt.
Along with his family, Jose moved to the United States in 1974. He first settled in Stoughton and later moved to Taunton in 1976, where he was educated in Taunton schools and where he made his home ever since.
Jose’s working career was spent as a truck driver, a job he truly loved very-very much. He was a communicant of The Annunciation of the Lord Church, who loved spending time with his adoring family, friends and his faithful and cherished dog “Roxy”. To sum up Jose’s life would to say that he had the biggest heart in the world and could always be counted on to lend those in need a helping hand.
He was the devoted brother of Maria “Connie” Teixeira and her husband Gilbert of Taunton, Maria Gorett Pothier and her husband Mark, Sr. of Berkley, Maria Celina Bettencourt of Taunton and Emanuel J. Bettencourt and his fiancé Ellie Brown of Norton. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17th at 11:00 A.M. in The Annunciation of the Lord Church, 31 1st Street in Taunton.
Burial will be private and visiting hours have been omitted.
