Obituary

Phillip J. “Phil” Campbell, a resident of South Boston and originally from Charlestown, entered into eternal life peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 7, 2019 after a brave and courageous battle with colon cancer. He was 72 years of age.

Phil was born to Agnes (O’Connell) Campbell and William Campbell, on September 2, 1946 and spent most of his years living in Charlestown before settling in South Boston with his beloved wife Mary. He was a long-time employee of the City of Boston, proudly serving the City for over 34 years. Phil was an avid Boston sports fan, a Celtics season ticket holder in the 1970’s and a big Red Sox fan. On his free time, Phil enjoyed going to Red Sox and Celtics games with his daughter Sharon. He also enjoyed sitting on the front steps greeting the neighbors and reading murder mysteries. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing men’s softball and darts. Phil was a proud member of the Halligan Club of Charlestown.

Phil is the beloved husband of Mary Campbell. He is the devoted father of Sharon Campbell Healey and her husband Michael Healey of South Boston. He is the loving brother of the late Jean F. Sullivan and her husband John T. “Jack” Sullivan, Joan Mahan, William "Soupy" Campbell and his wife Anne Campbell and Paul Campbell. He is the dear brother-in-law of Anne Chambers and her late husband James Chambers, Tricia and Thomas Klemm, Michael Crosby, Carole Garten Crosby and companion Charles Mirisola, Lillian and Bruce Dunbar, Geraldine and Francis McMurray and William Stanley. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Phil’s Funeral on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree. His visiting hours will be on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. in the funeral home.
