WORCESTER-Joseph R. O’Day, 59, of 31 Blithewood Avenue, died Saturday, January 14th with his beloved wife of 31 years Mary A. (McColl) O'Day at his side, in UMass Hospital. He leaves his son; Christopher J. O’Day of Miami, FL, his father; Robert P. O’Day of Worcester, a brother; James and his wife, Marybeth O’Day of West Boylston, a sister; Trudy Robinson of Worcester, 2 sister-in-laws and 2 brother-in-laws; Peter and Virginia McCabe of Worcester and Harold and Louise Flynn of South Haven, MS, many nephews and nieces and grand nephews and grand nieces.
He was born in Worcester his mother was the late Mae E. (Lauzon) O’Day and was a graduate of North High School in 1965. Mr. O’Day co-owned Modern Sheet Metal Company with Ted Mrugla for 30 years. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local #63, the Masons, Sterling Country Club and Wachusett Country Club. Mr. O’Day was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle rider and golfer, both pastimes he enjoyed sharing with his wife. His son Christopher was his pride and joy.
The funeral is Wednesday, January 18th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. George’s Chruch, 38 Brattle Street. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 17th from 6:00 until 9:00 PM in the funeral home.
