Neil E. Gillis Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Friday, August 2, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 31 years of age.
Neil was born in Cambridge on November 20, 1987, a son of Neil E. Gillis and Barbara (Mancuso) Matson. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Neil excelled in Charlestown youth hockey and Charlestown Pop Warner programs. Neil was an Apprentice with the Carpenters Union and was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local # 328. He was also an avid Boston sports fan.
Neil is the beloved son of Neil E. Gillis and Barbara (Mancuso) Matson. He is the devoted brother of Toni Matson, Davey Matson, Nicole Matson, Jillian Corbett and her husband Ryan, Barbie Gillis, Lindsey Ruyevcan and her husband Dan and the late Anthony Matson. He is the loving uncle to 12 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Neil's Funeral on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be private. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
