Janet M. Magnant of New Bedford passed away at home on August 1, 2019 surrounded by family after courageously battling cancer. Janet was born on April 27, 1932 to Edward and Elizabeth (Mulroy) Corrie.
She worked for the Acushnet Company for 25 years and cherished her lifelong friendships from her time spent as an inspector/finishing operator. After her retirement and multiple bouts with cancer, she was most pleased with her many years spent volunteering at the Hawthorn Cancer Center and the relationships she made there.
Janet celebrated 62 years of marriage to Maurice J. Magnant who predeceased her in 2018. They enjoyed camping as a young family and traded in their VW Beetle and tent for several trusty trailers over the years with many fond memories from their time spent at Knight and Look and Forge Pond campground. They were avid Bingo players and not even macular degeneration could prevent Janet from a round or two.
Janet is survived by her children, Michael J. Magnant and his wife Denise of Portsmouth, NH and Cheryl Johnson and her husband Vincent of New Bedford. Family members include grandchildren, Jamie Johnson, Jared Johnson, Justin Johnson and wife Paola, Jessica Johnson, Jacob Johnson, David Magnant and wife Ivy, and Dana Magnant Pearl and husband Christopher. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, her sisters, Millicent Reynolds and Marilyn DeJesus, and predeceased by brother Edward Corrie, Jr. Janet also cherished her close relationship with her many nieces and nephews.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday August 8, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Church, 106 Illinois St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven.
