WORCESTER___Joseph D. Majka, 64, of Worcester, formerly of Chicago Illinois, died Friday, January 13, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, Jean (Niksa) Majka and a daughter, Kimberly (Majka) Daniel of Munster, IN; two brothers, Leonard Majka of Cassopolis, MI; and Robert Majka of Valparaiso, IN; two sisters, Bernadette Spila of Joliet, IL; and Shirley Curtis of Knox, IN; and a granddaughter, Leah Shaffer of Munster, IN; A son, Joseph Majka died in 1993. He was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas Majka. He was born in Hammond, IN; son of Joseph and Helen (Mankoski) Majka, and lived in Chicago before moving to Worcester in 1971.
Mr. Majka worked in manufacturing retiring from Lund International Company several years ago due to illness. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed music and earlier played bass in a polka band in the area and in Chicago. Most recently, he was passionate for country and gospel music. He enjoyed fishing and the friends he made. He will be missed by his fishing buddy and good friend George and his dog Bartz, who brought him a great deal of joy.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 11 a.m. in HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 15, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 16, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
