Wilbur “W.R.” Tyson, 76, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, July 22, 2019, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, Georgia.
Honoring Mr. Tyson’s wishes, his body was donated to medical research. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Tyson was born July 14, 1943, in Brookfield, Georgia, to the late Buford Beaton & Evelyn Cravey Tyson. He retired as a service supervisor with Southern Bell. He was a general contractor in home building as well. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Mr. Tyson enjoyed growing flowers and spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by his dog, Chip.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Brad & Leslee Tyson of Tifton, Penny & Scott Lindsey of Tifton, and Kelli & Jessie McCrimmon of Ocilla; grandchildren: Cory Peacock, Cortney Peacock, and Carolyn McCrimmon; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy & Wilma Tyson of Tifton; three sisters: Dixie Towery of Tifton, Eileen & Buddy Brogdon of Omega, and Barbara & Doug Newsome of Tifton; two sisters-in-law, Cindy Tyson and Faith Tyson; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by good friends, Jess Brantley and Duncan Fields. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Roberts Tyson; a daughter, Dana Carol Tyson; and two brothers: Donald W. Tyson and B.B. Tyson, Jr.
