Obituary

CHICOPEE ~ Donald R. “The Don” Banville, 55, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Home on Sunday, July 21, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on April 23, 1964, a beloved son of Eugene A. Banville of Chicopee and the late Jeannine Rose (Ledoux) Banville who was Called Home on February 9, 2018. He was raised in Aldenville, graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School and was a lifelong resident of Aldenville. Don furthered his education and received an Associate’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Springfield Technical Community College. He had worked as a postal clerk at the Bulk Mail Center on Fiberloid Street in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 in Chicopee and a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. Don was an exceptional drummer and had played for many years with the bands, Hard Licker, Hot Pursuit and Legion. He was an avid reader, enjoyed his music and also enjoyed long, quiet nature walks at Skinner Mountain and the Quabbin Reservoir. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his friends. In addition to his loving father, he leaves his beloved wife and best friend of over twelve years, Maricatheryn L. “Kay” (Conlin) Banville; his two loving step-children, Rosemary K. (DeRose) Williams and her husband, Jason Williams, Sr., of Cleveland, OH and Mario A. DeRose of Lansing, MI; his four cherished step-grandchildren, Kiley Gonzalez, Jason Williams, Jr., Logan Williams and Parker Williams; his dear brother, Dennis E. Banville and his wife, Lugene, of Chicopee; his dear sister, Debra A. Slysz and her husband, Skip, of South Hadley; his dear uncle, Raymond Banville of West Brookfield; his two dear brothers-in-law, James Conlin of Killeen, TX and Terrance Conlin, Jr. of Lansing, MI; his dear sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Bailey and her husband, Donald, of Lansing, MI; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Banville, Ledoux, Conlin and DeRose families. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved feline companions, his cats Emmett and Emily. His relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. which will be followed by a 5 p.m. Prayer Service at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
